Just two out of 38 OECD countries report more poor people than the United States. The world’s number one economy still hasn’t figured out a way to lift 37 million lives out of the poverty zone.

The U.S. government can snap its fingers and announce the end of poverty. A little more than $500 billion, a presidential sign-off, and 435 Congressional 'YaYs' will be enough.

The United States could have used the $8 trillion it spent in post-9/11 wars to end poverty 14 times over. Iraq and Afghanistan are no better today than they were the day the U.S. combat troops walked out.

Thirteen million kids crawl onto their beds, clutching their stomachs every day. They will never see anything the same way as a fully fed, well-slept kid. School is an endurance test for many. It is cruel to ask kids to bear the burden of the families they were born into when the option to give them a fair shake requires nothing but a political will.

Some politicians will scream any government effort to end poverty squeezes hardworking Peters to help lazy ass Pauls. Still, they will never tell you about the system that siphons money from millions of Americans every day to help the rich get richer.
