Every Lawmaker Calling for Trump to Be Removed From Office

High-profile Democrats and at least four Republicans want Trump gone for inciting a mob to take over the U.S. Capitol

Following the siege of the U.S. Capitol at the hands of far-right insurrectionists, a growing number of lawmakers want to remove President Donald Trump from office, either through impeachment or by invoking the 25th Amendment.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the highest-ranking Democrats in Congress, called for invoking the 25th Amendment, which would require Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to get together and vote to remove Trump from the presidency because he won’t “discharge the powers and duties of his office.” In a statement, Schumer said, “What happened at the U.S. Capitol yesterday was an insurrection against the United States, incited by the president. This president should not hold office one day longer.”

Either way, Democratic leadership and more than 150 rank-and-file members of Congress have called for action to be taken just as the House and the Senate went on recess following the certification of Joe Biden’s presidential win. “If the 25th amendment is not invoked today, Congress must reconvene immediately for impeachment and…
