Here's Why Democrats Have to Put Black Americans' Concerns At the Top of the Ticket

We are the "working class" voters they need to win

Let's set the record straight. The Democrats would have lost the last election without Black voters siding overwhelmingly with Biden and down-ballot Democrats. So, now it's time for the White people in the party to listen to the concerns of Black Americans and not dictate to us a list of priorities that obfuscate the matter at hand. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act stole all the shine last year in the battle for priorities. But what about voting rights and criminal justice reform?

In 2020, the Democratic Party rose to power, riding on the coattails of massive protests following George Floyd's public murder. These marches were the largest in U.S. history. Many Americans felt triggered by what they saw and decided to raise their voices and fists in solidarity. And while it seems fewer media outlets pick up stories about police brutality anymore, American police have continued to use brutal tactics, leading to more Black people dying in their custody.

A quantitative study by The Lancet said many of these deaths in police custody never make it in a report, which is consistent with another study that explored fatal…
