In 2018, a New York Times op-ed describing “the resistance inside the White House” set Washington on fire. President Trump was furious at being betrayed by an administration insider, setting off a hunt for the identity of “Anonymous.”
On Wednesday, two years after the essay and a subsequent book, Anonymous revealed himself to be Miles Taylor, a former Homeland Security official who worked for the administration between 2017 and 2019.
Taylor’s coming out marks an anticlimactic end to years of wild speculation, but it doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise. Taylor publicly endorsed Joe Biden and began speaking out against Trump this summer. He told GEN in an August interview: “It’s pretty liberating to come out and just say, ‘You know what? Dammit, this is the truth. Everyone saw it the same way basically. And now, I don’t have to hide that.’”
