Liberalism and the Crusader State
I’ve already written about my conflicting views over whether China might be a better dominating power or “global hegemon” for the world than the United States. The United States has been exceptionally brutal in its foreign policy, and there’s good reason to believe that China wouldn’t be nearly as violent if it were the strongest country in the world. I also think the United States has a better system of government than China does, and I do fear that the rise of China may lead to a rise in authoritarianism across the globe and limiting of possibilities for future forms of government.
This brings up the question: Why has the United States been so violent throughout its history? Being genocidal or expansionist isn’t too out of the ordinary, China has plenty of that in its history. What’s strange is that the United States is so incredibly willing to spend its money and power on invading other countries when it’s perhaps the safest and most prosperous nation in history. We have no immediate competitors, we’re surrounded by two massive oceans and countries too weak to threaten us, and people throughout the world genuinely admire our culture and system of government.
