Now that he’s been elected president, Joe Biden has the mammoth task of retooling his science agencies. Though the election is barely behind us, it’s never too early to speculate as to whom the president-elect might select to lead the nation in public health and health care policy.

There are a number of names already being floated, as Alexandra Sifferlin reports in Medium’s Coronavirus Blog. Among the most interesting potential appointments: Anne Schuchat, who served two stints as interim director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention between January 2017 and March 2018, as CDC director; and Mary Katherine Wakefield, who was the acting deputy secretary of Health and Human Services in the Obama administration from 2015 to 2017, as surgeon general.
