The Sad Debate Over the American Safety Net
I honestly wonder if we would need much of a welfare state if not for the economic predations of the business class.
Today I read yet another installment of criticism of President Biden’s Build Back Better Plan that is currently winding its way through Congress. It’s one more article telling us that if we could just let the economy work, then the working class wouldn’t need government subsidies for childcare. The article I speak of, Why Republicans Need a Childcare Proposal of Their Own by Abby M. McCloskey, implores the GOP to come up with a better plan.
Take note that McCloskey is a striking, blue-eyed blonde, perfectly fit for duty as an anchor or correspondent on FOX News. From her bio at mccloskeypolicy.com, named after her consulting firm, McCloskey Policy, we learn:
Abby M. McCloskey is founder and principal of McCloskey Policy LLC, a research and consulting firm serving business and political leaders across the country, including presidential and Congressional candidates, Cabinet-level appointees, Fortune 500 CEOs, and foundations. She is a senior advisor to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, member of the AEI-Brookings Working Group on Paid Leave, Impact Leader for Politico’s Women Rule Exchange, and contributor to the Dallas Morning News.
