The Supreme Court Isn't Even Hiding Their Disdain for Black Voters Anymore

A recent decision exposes the court's intention to further marginalize Black voters at any cost

In America, Supreme Court justices have lifelong appointments, and their legal opinions impact the lives of all Americans, but not equally. Black Americans have faced numerous attacks by the Supreme Court. In 1857, Dred Scott v. Sandford justices decided a Black man could not sue the federal government for his freedom because they considered Black people property. After that racist judgment, America had to endure a hard-fought Civil War, Abraham Lincoln had to sign the Emancipation Proclamation and Congress had to pass the 14th and 15th Amendments to repudiate the courts’ long-standing anti-Black positions.

Not sure if your history books spilled the beans, so you may not know that in 1883, the Supreme Court exhibited white backlash. In the Civil Rights Cases decision in 1883, justices claimed the Civil Rights Act of 1867 was unconstitutional. But, you probably never heard of this bill, so let me back up.
