This time next week, you will refer to Amy Coney Barrett as Justice Barrett. Republicans in the Senate Judiciary Committee advanced the judge’s nomination on Thursday; Democrats boycotted the procedure in protest. In an on-brand move, the GOP bypassed the panel’s rules requiring that two members of the minority party are present for the nomination vote. A full Senate vote to confirm Barrett is scheduled for Monday — just eight days before Election Day.

It’s difficult to explain how undemocratic this farce has been. Have no doubt, we will feel the effects of this decision for decades. As Jill Filipovic points out, Barrett’s confirmation will have a cascading effect limiting many of our rights. Simply put, everything is on the line.
