Donald Trump’s week started well. He got to tell a tremendous story.

In a nationally televised address on Sunday, Trump relished in recounting the gory details of how ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was captured and killed in a covert raid over the weekend. The event was designed to project strength, with Trump imagineering himself as the Hero President who took down the most-wanted terrorist in the world. He even described the action in the first-person, as if he was there.

But true to form, Trump was caught fabricating details to fit his bizarre internal dreamworld. U.S. officials later told The Daily Beast they were baffled to hear Trump describe on four separate occasions that al-Baghdadi went out “whimpering” and like a “dog,” as there was no audio in the livestream video of the U.S. forces raid on al-Baghdadi’s hideout. Then, his storyline was derailed by a Good American Dog.
