Trump Has Nowhere to Hide After Sondland’s Bombshell Testimony
The ambassador provides the missing link between the president and the plot to pressure Ukraine
After thousands of pages of closed-door depositions and hours of public witness testimony, Gordon Sondland finally provided the missing link between a plot to pressure Ukraine into satisfying President Trump’s personal needs and the president himself.
House Democrats have been setting the stage for Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, to be their key witness after weeks of the impeachment inquiry. Past witnesses have testified about the White House effort to solicit Ukraine’s interference in the U.S. election. Sondland testified about ongoing efforts by Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and U.S. government officials to condition official acts like a White House meeting on the Ukrainians agreeing to investigate Trump’s political rivals.
Finally, on Wednesday, the world heard from Sondland that his own efforts in the scheme were at the express direction of Trump.
Contrary to what Republicans say is a Democratic fabrication, Sondland was crystal clear: Corrupt quid pro quos are at the heart of the Ukraine scandal.
