Two Senators Believe 'Filibuster' Is More Important Than Our Democracy

Let's make sure we focus on the source of contention

The tragedy is that we have a congress with a senate that has a minority of misguided senators who will use the filibuster to keep the majority of people from even voting. They won’t let the majority of senators vote and certainly, they wouldn't want the majority of people to vote because they know they do not represent the majority of the American people — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Senator Krysten Sinema of Arizona and Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia have become proud obstructionists in our Congress. They have become the liberals' Martin Luther King Jr. warned us about. They have prioritized the filibuster, a Jim Crow relic, over the will of the majority. Ironically, neither senator opposed carving out an exception for the filibuster to raise the debt ceiling. But, when it comes to Civil Rights, they won't budge.

Both senators have decided to preserve the will of the White minority rather than protect the rights of all Americans. And while both claim they want any legislation to gain the consensus of a supermajority, that's an unrealistic threshold. The truth is Americans have consistently struggled to pass and maintain civil…
