Two Truths at the Same Time: Both Trump and Biden Failed*

War doesn’t always fit clearly into our red/blue paradigm

The fall of Kabul may not have gone as expected, but what is going exactly as expected is the hyper-partisan response in our media — both mainstream and social. The red team is running ridiculous headlines about Biden’s “incompetence” and giving air time to Magaman to lay all of the blame at the feet of his predecessor. (Yes, the blatant gaslighting continues.) Laura and Tucker are raving about the cost of refugees, while Rick Scott is talking about the 25th Amendment — preposterous after the madness of the last four years. Far at the other end, the blue team is turning a blind eye to Biden’s fault here, refusing to acknowledge how poorly the American exit was executed, managed, and messaged. This was botched, and many on the left refuse to see it, parroting the unsatisfying talking points from Biden’s Monday speech.

Look, I know nothing more about Afghanistan than you do nor any more than what I can read from various sources online. I am not a foreign-policy expert. I am not a historian of the Middle East. And I am not a war correspondent. But I am an American citizen, and I know two things clearly: (1) we all…
